Content description
Plans for journey to Brighton and thence Dieppe. Will obtain passport tomorrow then return to Eton; to meet the new Canon of Windsor, Dr Clarke [James Stanier Clarke] at dinner at Canon William Long's on Friday. Plans for French visit; will need to hire a carriage at Dieppe and valet de place at Paris. Sends notice from Windsor paper of marriage of his former footman, Joseph Heath. While at Eton General Bingham gave him fine specimens of shells. Coronation appears as doubtful as ever; does not believe it will take place this year. Sale of Mrs [Angies] shell collection. Story that the King made Canon Clarke tipsy and put him to bed with a jack-ass. 'We hear he is not likely to be a pleasant brother'.
