Visited Henry's lodgings. Purchase of coins and 16-drawer mahogany cabinet. Visits to Bishops of Ely, Gloucester, Lincoln and Chester, Duke of Newcastle and the Marquess of Chandos; two hours with Sowerby who has good but expensive shells. 'We have thought it right to send a petition, not very vehement, against the extension of political power'; Bishop of Gloucester to present it in the Lords and is waiting to hear if Chandos will present it in the Commons. Peel's election [as MP for Oxford University] considered certain but heard today that Sir Robert Ingliss is increasing his majority. Lists bishops who will vote for and against the ministry [on Catholic emancipation]. Report at Windsor that canonry to be given to Augustus FitzClarence, not yet in priest's orders, who conducted himself so ill at Oxford that he was with difficulty admitted to Cambridge.
