The Queen a most accomplished waltzer. Keates, Hawtreys and the 20 Etonian noblemen invited. 'It is useless to utter any jeremiads on the astounding report of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners' Expects to be first or at most second to create a vacancy at Windsor'. The loss of the arrears post mortem will be a loss to his representatives. Hopes to celebrate wedding anniversary with the Grovers, Keates, Carters and Lord Braybrooke. 36 candidates for the Newcastle Scholarship; examiners speak well of their efforts and attainments. His footman John, who has just received the place of Under-Butler, is leaving; will be hard to replace in spite of occasionally taking 'a sup too much'.
