Series
Born in 1946, the younger son of the 12 Earl Waldegrave, Provost Waldegrave came to Eton in January 1959, in A.J. Marsden's house. He left in July 1964 and went to Corpus Christi College, Oxford (of which he became an Honorary Fellow in 1991). He was subsequently Kennedy Fellow at Harvard University and a Fellow of All Souls from 1971 - 1986 and again from 1999. In 1979 he was elected Conservative MP for Bristol West and in 1981 became Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Education and Science, moving to Environment in 1983 and becoming Minister of State at the Foreign Office in 1988. In 1990 he joined the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Health, subsequently serving as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food and Chief Secretary to the Treasury. He lost his seat in 1997 and was raised to the peerage as Baron Waldegrave of North Hill in 1999, becoming Provost of Eton in 2009.
