Modbury, Devon: Memorandum of plea

Memorandum of a plea in the Kings court at Trematon, co. Cornwall, between the King and his bailiffs on the one part and Nicholas, Prior of Modbury, on the other, in which the former claimed from the latter suit at the said court of Trematon and fealty for the land of Burel [Burrell] and the land of the said Prior at Nottatorr' [Notter] in the manor of Halton, the assise of the tithing and the other royal services. The Prior appeared in person at the court on Thursday before the feast of St Thomas the Apostle 19 Edward II and exhibited his charters concerning the premises before Sir Robert Bendyn, keeper of the Castle of Trematon, Willliam Waleys, steward of the same, and many others, which were read aloud and it was found that the lands of Burel and Nottatorr' were given to the Prior and monks of Modbury in frankalmoign, quit of all secular action and service, and a copy of all the grants was enrolled on the roll of the said court. And the Prior departed quit of all suit and fealty by the judgement of the court.
