Letters of Thomas, Bishop of Exeter, reciting his award, made 26 June 1377. in his chapel in his manor of Crediton, in a dispute between John Michell, Prior of Modbury, and William Dalton, vicar of the parish Church of Modbury, as to whose duty it was to strew the said Chirch with straw, in which he awards a third part of the duty to the vicar and two thirds to the Prrior. Written by Edmund Malmeshull, the Bishop's notary public. Given 26. June, 1377
Witnesses: Master Hugh Hicklyng, chancellor, and Robert Dirwyn, by Apostolic authority notary public, and William Comb, clerk.
Seal. Pointed oval, 60.mm. green wax, pendent from a doubled tag, damaged at sides. St.Peter seated full faced within gothic arch and canopy, his left hand holding a key, is right hand raised in blessing. In base the Bishop with crozier in left hand, within a round, arch, between shields of arms, a fesse embattled between three Catherine wheels.
