Modbury, Devon: Indenture of lease by Joan, Queen of England

Indenture from Joan, Queen of England, to William Beuselyn, Prior of Modbury, Laurence le Fourmyer, monk, John Fortescu and Thomas Hall of the custody of the Priory of Modbury fro twenty years for a yearly rent of 23li:13s:4d. On December 1422. the Queen had granted the same to William Fanchelin, the Prior, Nicholas Radford, Robert Treage, John Woldston and Henry Drewe for twenty years for the same rent, the premises had returned into the Queen's hands, because the rent had been in arrears to the extent of 11.li:6s:8d. for forty days and the lessees had done damage to the property to the extent of twenty pounds and more.
