Licence from Edmund, Bishop of Exeter, to William Beuselyn, Prior of Modbury, to perform divine service in the chapel of St. Margaret at Modbury. Given at Criditon.
Seal. of the Bishop, pointed oval, red wax, 75.mm. pendent on tongue. An excellent impression, very slightly chipped at the sides. Within a gothic canopied, in the top part of the centre one being a Virgin and Child, St. Peter and St. Paul seated. beneath , in a round archway, the Bishop kneeling in prayer, cozier on left shoulder, between shields of arms: (1) the royal arms. (2) per pale crossed(?), three pelicans(?).
