Modbury, Devon: Inspeximus and Ratification by William Champernoun

Inspeximus and Ratification by William Champernoun, Esquire, lord of Modbury, of an indenture of release by James de Oxton, 16 September 1302 (B.6/XXV. fully recited), in favour of William Beuselyn, now Prior, and quitclaim to the said Prioy of all his right in the lands called Donnyngismede lying in the tithing of Great Modbury. Witnesses: William Courtenay, Humprey Courtenay, Henry Pomeray, Walter Halghewill, Robert Reynell, Esquires & others.
Two Seals: Round, red wax, good impressions deeply imbedded, each pendent on a double tag.
(1) 12.mm. St Christopher bearing the Holy Child holding a cross in his right hand, facing a lion rampant."And because my seal is unknown to many, by special rquest I have obtained the seal of Philip Courtenay, Esquire, my cousin".
