Counterpart of Indenture of lease upon surrender of a lease of 21 March, 1742, to the Rev. George Baker, now deceased, and Ambrose Rhodes, by the Provost and College of Eton, to the Rev. Thomas Baker, and (the said?) Ambrose Andrew Rhodes, of Bellair, Esquire, of the Priory, rectory, and parsonage of Modury, and the manors of Modbury, Upton and Prequit, and a tenement in Notter, and eight closes(named) in Modbury, parcel of the manor of Upton, and a cottage sometime held by Michael Mallett, amd a tenement or cottage with three closes(named), and a parcel of land called the Wood, late held by the said Mallett. To hold from Michaelmass 1777. for twenty years, for a yearly rent of 46li : 8s : 10d and twenty three quarters, two bushels of wheat and sixty two quarters of malt or their money equivalent at the current rate of the Windsor market, and 6li : 9s : 6d which is a recent increase of rent, and ten pounds for perquisites of courts and other casualties. And licence for a fine of one hundred pounds for the lessees to lease to any persons whatsoever by copy of court roll for the term of twenty one years thetenement called Scots House, and two closes of pasture called Scotts Field or the Bowling Green

for rent of four shilling, and Swinbridge Mills and three closes of pasture called the Three Priors parks or Higher Prior's Park, and four closes called Lower or Little Prior's Parks, and a close called Wakeham's Parks or the close by Willis's Lake, and two closes called Farry's Park and the meadow under it, and four closes called Lower Willis's Lakes alias Wester Willis Lakes, and three closes called the three Wester old Hays, and four closes called the tree Easter Old Hays, and the Little Meadow or the four Middle Closes or Dangdown and Corners Mead, two closes called Bridge Park, or the close by Swinbridge, and four closes called the four Southerns or Sawdern's Park, and two closes called Cold Herbert or Higher and Loer Cold Herbert, and a close called Woodhill or Oakey, and a close(formerly two) called Cockery Cole Meadow or the Mill Meadow, and thirteen closes called the Stallivers or Stalliford Ground, all in the parish of Modbury, within the said manor, and formerly in the possession of Henry Legassick, for a yearly rent for the said mills of fifteen pounds and for the rest of the premises 7li : 5s : 0d and four pieces of land called the three Scaldons and Barley Park, and three closes called Higher Willis Lakes or Easter Willis Lakes for a yearly rent of 2li : 6s : 0d.
