Stogursey, Somerset: Indenture of agreement concerning tithe rent
Item
3 August 1394
Indenture of agreement between Thomas Peverell, esquire, lord of the manor of Wotton Courtenay [Wootton Courtney], and brother Richard Amys, prior of Stokegourci, in their dispute concerning a yearly tithe rent of 10s issuing from the said manor. The said dispute was put into the hands of Sir Piers Courtenay who ordained that the prior should receive the said rent unless the said Thomas could find evidences that it was not due, in which case the prior would have to pay back what he had received. The prior gave his word as a priest that if he found any such evidences in his custody he would surrender the same. Given at Alre [Aller], Monday before the feast of Saint Laurence 18 Richard II.
