White Bear, Cheapside, London: Indenture of award concerning rent

Indenture of award, by Richard Broke, knight, a justice of the Common Pleas in a dispute between Roger Lupton, Provost of the College of Eton and the chapter there, possessors of the Hospital of St James, and Elizabeth Stampe, Prioress, and the convent of St Helen's within Bishopsgate concerning a rent 36s from a tenement called the White Beare in Westchepe [Cheapside] at the east part of the corner house at Bredstreete [Bread Street] end, the parties having bound themselves each in obligations of £100 dated 26 April 1521 (sic) to observe the arbitration.
The Prioress to release to the Provost by indenture before next Christmas 18s of the said rent, and to enjoy the other 18s. The Provost to confirm by deed the said rent of 18s to the Prioress, and grant that she may distrain if it is in arrears, and to pay £10 18s in payment of all arrears. The Prioress by deed to release all arrears due before the date of the obligation. The Provost by deed to release all actions before the said date.
The arbitrator's seal, has been put to both parts of the indenture, round 7mm, red wax, on doubled tag. Within scrolls WM.
