Grant, at the petition of the King and by the presentation of William de Solarilis, by Richard, bishop of Winchester, (1173/4 - 1169) to the abbey of St Sauveur in the Contentin of the church of All Saints Alingeham [Ellingham], in frankalmoign; saving the rights of the bishop viz. that the monks are to present to him a priest who is to be made vicar there and are to make him sufficient assignment.
Seal of the bishop, originally about 80mm, natural colour wax with green varnish, on doubled tag, in dark brown cloth wrapper, straw knot. A fine specimen, slightly chipped at top and bottom. The bishop on a platform full length lifting up right hand in benediction, in the left hand a pastoral staff. The field empty (Not apparently B.M. no. 2242) ...ARDUS DEI G... .....IENSIS EPISCOPUS. Counter seal, oval, 33 mm. Seated figure being offered a cup by a child. SUM CUSTOS ET TESTIS SIGILLI
