Sporle, Norfolk
Series
The alien priory of Sporle which had belonged to the abbey of St Florent, Saumur, appears in the 1441 endowment of Eton College. The grant was confirmed by Edward IV in 1462.
1226 - 1870
These documents were the contents of drawer A.16 in College Library. Originally housed in oak boxes measuring on an average 4x6x8 inches, with sliding tops that fit into a groove. In some cases the estate to which the deeds belong has been written on the box. It is this writing that dates the boxes not later than the early part of the seventeenth century.
