Cottisford, Oxfordshire: Indenture of lease of manor

Indenture of lease by brother William de Sancto Vedesto, prior of Okebourne [Ogbourne], and proctor general in England of the abbey of Bec Herlewyn [Bec Hellouin], to Edward Mettele of the manor of Cotesford [Cottisford], from the feast of St Barnabas last for 9 years. Rent £10 and the lessee to support all burdens incumbent on the said manor (except the tithes pertaining to the King) and to maintain the buildings and restore them at the end of the term together with the stock, living and dead, specified in another indenture.

Seal, round, 20mm, red wax, on tongue. A shield of arms within a circle cusped. A chevron between three birds displayed two and one. ..GILLUM EDWARDI M.TEL.YE
Endorsed: Memorandum that Edward Mettele delivered to John Schirbourn in the manor of Cotesford on 14 June 1400 the following viz: 3 horses worth 40s, 6 oxen at 15s a head, 300 ewes and wethers, 100 lambs; and there were sown 9 quarters of barley more than the said Edward received, and all the other corn was sown as he received it and better, and all the rest of the stock was in the custody of Thomas Blake except one little boar of little worth. Item there remained in the custody of the said Thomas for delivery to the lord 2 quarters of wheat and 4 quarters of malt for expenses beforehand of the imprest of the said Edward up to Michaelmas.
