Cottisford and Fringford, Oxfordshire: Indenture of lease of manor

Indenture of lease by the Provost and College to John Higgeford, of Dixton, co. Gloucester, esquire, of the manor of Cottesford [Cottisford] with all its appurtenances in Cottesford and Furingeford [Fringford]; reserving to the lessors the advowson of the church of Cottesford and all wood, both oak, ash and elm. From Michaelmas 1584, or on the expiry of a lease to John Ardren, gentleman, for 40 years. Rent £26 15s 4d to be paid as follows: in lieu of £8 16s of the said rent, 22 quarters of wheat, the remainder viz £17 19s 4d in cash. The lessees to maintain the buildings on the said manor, together with the water mill in Furingeford.
