Frauncis Temple to Sir Henry Savile, giving an account of his visit to Sir Anthony Cope when inquiring about wrong done to the College in Cottsford [Cottisford].

"...and further he saied he did not knowe whether I was your woor(ship's) servant or not, and askede me whether I had anye letter or anye authoritye in wrightinge from you, wheruppon I showed his woor(ship) what earneste busines you weare in by the King's commaundement at Oxforde, and that I came suddainly awaye wen you weare goinge to meete your companye about the busines committed unto you, and therfore havine no tyme to wrighte, you delivered me my message in sutche wise as I showed his worshipe. After this I showed him that his tenaunts of Heathe [Heath] had broughte into Cotsforde feelds a great numbar of sheepe, and that he himselfe had lykwise sent manye sheepe thither to be pastured, wheras neither the lords nor anye inhabitant of Heathe had ever any sheepe goinge ther, for Heathe land befor. To wch he saied (I marye) I doe it in my owne righte..."
