Administrative / Biographical history

The reversion of the manor of Weedon Bec, with the advowson of the church there, upon the death of Humphrey, earl of Stafford, was granted to the Provost and College of Eton by Letters Patent of 16 September 1443. On 12 March 1445 the said Humphrey, now duke of Buckingham, was granted a licence to surrender the same to the College. The property had formerly belonged to the alien priory of Ogbourne, a cell of the abbey of Bec in Normandy. In 1804 the construction of the Royal Military Depot of H.M. Ordnance saw an Act of Parliament in which land was bought from the College for this purpose.
The college administration of the Everdon and Weedon Bec estates overlapped a good deal, with the result that many records relating to one place are to be found in the catalogue for the other estate.
