Blakenham, Suffolk: Indenture of lease of site of manor

Indenture of lease, by the Provost and College to John Veare, of Blakenham on the water, yeoman, of the site of the manor of Blakenham on the water with all lands pertaining in Blakenham, Baylham and Claydon and elsewhere, co. Suffolk, with all rents, reversions, fishings, fowlings, hawkings and huntings belonging thereto, and a wood called Blakenham Hawle wood containing ten acres, the advowson of the benefice and the keeping of courts and profits therefrom being reserved to the lessors. From Michaelmas next for 20 years. Rent £14 10s, and at Christmas one good and seasonable boar or 20s to buy the same, and at Michaelmas 24 quarters of malt. The lessee to maintain and repair the buildings including the fulling mill there, to maintain the hedges and scour the ditches, to fell the wood at seasonable times keeping "the springs of the same from the bighte and browsinge of all maner of cattall untyll yt be paste all danger", leaving always twleve "standells and storers" upon every acre according to the statute of 35 Henry VIII. The lessee to have sufficient cartebote, ploughbote, fyrebote and hedgebote. The lessors to find lodging with horsemeat and man's meat for the lessors for one day and two nights a year when they shall choose to come; and to collect and deliver the profits of the courts.
