East Wretham, Norfolk: Letter concerning Ringmere Pitt
Item
9 May 1713
Nathaniel Coddington, West Wretham, 9 May 1713, to the Rev. Dr Weston, enclosing a drawing of Ringmere Pitt with notes of the owners of the lands adjoining it. The water is not worth the money that would be spent on it in a lawsuit. The pit “hath been known to be dry and a person now living can remember all the bordering shephards met to dig for water and after their long labour when water came went together by the ears whose flocks should water first.”
