Indenture between master Roger Lupton, Provost, and the College of one part and Thomas Smyth alias Thomas Butler of the other, by which the College undertakes to "hold and kepe a solempne annyversarye within the same College church of Eton yerly whiell and world shall indeur with the hole quer of the same College and all the same annyversaries specially and principally to be holdyn and kepte for the soule of the said Thomas Smyth and soulis of his father and mother and soule of Gasill (Basill) Bowman and for the soulis of all thois that the said Thomas is bounde to pray for and for all Cristen soulis; the said annyversarie to he holdyn and kepte yerly for ever the day of the deth of the said Thomas Smyth otherwise callid Thomas Buttler that is to say with placebo and derige by note with ix lessons with lauds over nyght except in pascawe tyme and on the morrow masse of requiem, and the paid Provoust and College shall yerly provyde orden and have at every such annyversarie an herse to be sett in the mydis of the body of the church of the said College coverid and apparelid convenyently for the same and a crosse to be sett apon the said herse with four tapers of waxe and all the same four tapers to be lyghtand contynually bren all the tyme of every such placebo and derige lauds and massis of requiem, and the same Provoust and College and their successours whall cause the bellis of the same College to be solempny ronge at every of the said annyversaris in like maner and forme as they do or have don at other life annyversaries or obbitts holdyn within the said College." Margaret Darker to have yearly during her life from the College 13s 4d after the decease of the said Thomas Smyth.
