Penn, Buckinghamshire: Indenture of lease

Indenture of lease by John atte Grove, of la Penne, and John Hampton, servant of Thomas Carbonell, to Simon Bovendon, of la Penne, of all their lands and tenements in la Penne and Wycombe, from Michaelmas next for seven years. Rent £5 6s 8d. And grant of 140 sheep and 60 lambs with 16d a head, to wit in all, £13 6s 8d. If more than 20 of these die in one year from the common murrain the loss shall be that of the lessors, otherwise that of the lessee. And 6 cows worth 10s a head, in all £3 and 2 swine with a boar and 4 geese and a gander worth 10s, and 4 horses with a cart and all its apparatus and a plough with all its apparatus worth £3 3s 4d and 10 quarters of corn, 6 quarters of barley, 4 quarters of dredge and 4 quarters of pease worth 3s 4d a quarter, in all £4. The lessors shall come to Beelynges in the parish of la Penne before the end of the seventh year and shall choose whether they wish to have the stock aforesaid or its price. The lessee to receive and lodge and provide food and drink worthy of his state for Thomas Carbonell, with three horses, four times in each year for a day and a night and shall give the horses in the name of a prebend two bushels of oats. The lessee to have timber of beech to make a pair of cartwheels, also timber for a plough and firewood. The lessee to maintain each year twelve capons, of the capons of Thomas Carbonell.
