Royal Patents: Judgement over annexation of Eton to Windsor

Judgement by Thomas, archbishop of Canterbury and cardinal, appointed by pope Paul II to adjudicate between the colleges of Eton and St George's Windsor, annulling Pius II's annexation of Eton to Windsor. Witnesses: masters John Close, doctor of laws, advocate of the court of Canterbury, John Thwaytes, bachelor of theology, Edmund Lichefeld, master of arts, Robert Sturdy, bachelor in decrees, and John Bele and John Shefeld, notaries public.

Seal, pointed oval, 95 x 58 mm, red wax, in metal skippet, on plaited purple silk cords. The Trinity between two prelates; beneath, the archbishop in prayer between two shields of arms, left, the see of Canterbury, right, quarterly, 1 and 4 a cross engrailed between four water-bougets, 2 and 3 billetty a fesse. Floral border beautifully illuminated with gold leaf and many colours, at the top and left side, the royal arms in the middle at the top. In the initial the Assumption of the Virgin with angels. To the left the cardinal archbishop in prayer, behind him three other praying ecclesiastics.
