Arbitration, by Edward Morgan, of Newport, co. Monmouth, esquire, Robert Aldworth, of Bristol, esquire, Nathaniel Ingelo, of Eton College, doctor of divinity, John Cressett, of London, esquire, James Jones, of Carlion, co. Monmouth, gentleman, and Philip Dorney, of Bristol, gentleman, in a dispute between Christopher Whichcott, esquire, Sir Jeremy Whichcott, Knight and Baronet, late esquire, and Sir John Trevor, Knight, farmers under the College, and Thomas Morgan, esquire, and others the copyhold tenants of the manor of Goldcliff and Nash concerning the fines paid for admittances upon descent or surrenders of copyhold lands.
The fines for alienations, surrenders and descents are fixed at 3s 6d an acre, and for every estate for life passed by a husband to a wife at 21d an acre. The arbitration to be embodied in a Chancery decree.
Signed by the arbitrators, one of the farmers and the copyhold tenants who are named Thomas Morgan, William Dapwell, Philip Robins, Andrew Hall, Reece Willkin, Edward Baker (mark), William Keen, Abell Lewis, John William, John Frost, James Boole (mark).
Witnesses: John Whichcote, Charles Morgan, Sam. [?Purlewent], William Skreene (mark).
Seals of the arbitrators, red wax, on tongues, none with an effective impression.
