Hanging Langford, Wiltshire: Counterpart of lease

Counterpart of lease, by the Provost and College to Thomas Valence, of Eton, gentleman, of the manor or priory of Hanginge Langforde, co. Wilts, with the moiety of a water mill there and all appurtenances, except all fines, heriots, reliefs, perquisites of courts and leets, woods, underwoods, wards and marriages, also the letting and setting of the customary holdinggs. From Michaelmas 1570 or whensoever, by surrender or other means, the premises shall come into the hands of the College, for 21 years. Rent £6 3s 6d and 27 fat wethers, to be delivered yearly at the College pasture called "the playinge leaze", or their money equivalent. The lessee to provide lodging and sustenance for the lessors and their horses for two days and nights a year whenever they shall come to survey their lands or keep their courts. The lessee to make a terrar within three years of his entry.
