Content description

Indenture of lease, by Thomas Goodwyn, of New Sarum, gentleman, to Joell Rowden, yeoman, of a moiety of the manor or priory of Hanging Langford. From Michaelmas last for 21 years. Rent to the College 59s 9½d and to the said Goodwyn within the College 14½ bushels 1 gallon of wheat and 3 quarters 5 bushels of malt. The lessee to bear a moiety of the entertainment of the lessors when visiting the manor, and of the expenses of sending the rent and of collecting the rents of assise from freeholders and copyholders and the perquisites of courts and heriots and other duties. The said Joell has lately surrendered his title to the said moiety to Goodwyn so that the latter might in his own name purchase a new lease in the premises.

Seal, red wax, papered, no impression, on doubled tag.

Endorsed with an assignemtn 16 July 1670, by Joell Rowden for £260 to John Selwood the elder, of Chitterne St Mary, co. Wilts, yeoman, of the said moiety. Signature of Rowden and his seal, oval, 14 x 12mm, red wax, applied on paper, a ram's or stag's head.
