Hanging Langford, Wiltshire: Letter concerning timber
Item
28 January 1819
Francis Oakley, Dorchester, to the Rev William Roberts, concerning the timber cut down by Jones. After much investigation he has ascertained the pieces of enclosed land held by Mr Moody. The lands in the common fields are held in undivided moieties, but every piece is clearly particularised in the map. Mr Moody still claims the manor and says the College has no right to appoint a gamekeeper. But by executing the counterpart of his leases Mr Moody has fully acknowledged the manor to be solely the estate of the College. He has therefore desired Mr Seagrim to continue his shooting over the whole manor, and to send Mr Roberts some game.
