Content description
Benjamin Smith, to Rev William Roberts. At a recent meeting of the proprietors it was resolved that the terms of the lord of the manor and of the tythe owner were unacceptable. Sir Gilbert Heathcote, the lord of the manor claimed 1/20 in lieu of manorial rights. He has now agreed to 1/40, such as he had accepted in several adjoining parishes. The parts of the tythe owner's terms which are objected to are 1/8 open meadow and 1/8 old enclosure. The proprietors are willing to give 1/9 of each and no more. Such is the proportion given in neighbouring enclosures. Will the College accept such terms?
