Bledlow, Buckinghamshire: Letter concerning cutting down trees
Item
14 December 1827
2 folios
Jos. Jas. Harper, Bledlow Risboro', to the Rev G Bethel. He does not think any opposition to the cutting down of the trees would have been offered "had not the Parish Clark, who is also surveyor of the roads, instigated some of the parites to oppose it." "In attempting to move the pound, I incurr'd the heavy displeasure of many persons, and several laborers were sent to fill in the holes as fast as the carpenter dug them for the posts. The clergyman and several of the parishioners insisted on his discontinuing the work..." One inhabitant has gone into Northamptonshire to see Mr Collinson, the only surviving Enclosure commissioner beside Mr Dixon, to make inquiry. "... things remain perfectly stationary until I hear again from you..."
