Content description
Confirmation and ratification by William, abbot of the monastery of the Blessed Mary of Lonlay, of the order of St Benedict, in the diocese of Le Mans, and the convent there, of an agreement between Thomas Provost (Prepositus), prior of the priory of St Andrew of Stokecurcy, and Thomas Trivet, esquire, concerning the celebration of masses three times a week and on feast days.
Lonlay.
Two seals, pointed oval, natural coloured wax, on doubled tags.
(1) About 50 x 32mm, slightly chipped at bottom. The abbot, full face, standing, in the right hand a crozier, the curve turned outwards. On each side a branch.
(2) About 68 x 50mm. The Virgin and Child enthroned, on either side an angel, standing; below, beneath a Gothic canopy, the abbot, full face, three quarter length, in the right hand a crozier, the curve turned inwards, in the left hand a book. On either side a praying figure quarter length.
The legend on a raised border.
