Copy of exemplification, by Sir Henry Wotton, Provost, and the Fellows of Eton, at the request of William Day, vicar of Mateldurham, of the deed of 20 January 1454 uniting the parsonage and vicarage of Mapeldurham. Master Roger Gery, vicar of the parish church there, had claimed to the Provost and College, the proprietors, that the vicarage was insufficient for his sustenance. The matter had been referred to the bishop of Lincoln, with the resultant agreement that the vicar should have the mansion of the rectory, with lands and buildings pertaining viz. a croft called Pouchecroft of 10 acres, another called Longecroft of 6 acres, another with cablo [? cablish of windfallen wood] called Crouchcroft of 10 acres, another called Nakercroft alias Nakedcroft of 7 acres, a piece of land in the common field called Homefeild of 2 acres, a piece lying atte Parsonage Stubbis of 2 acres, a piece at Rotemerum of 1 acre, 1 acre at Elidenoreshill, a piece of meadow called le Persons Plott with a stitche of meadow of 1½ acres, a small croft next the rectory called Parsons Croft of 2½ acres, a piece in Thropfield of 5 acres and 1 acre in Great Ligh. And the vicar should have all tythes and profits whatever pertaining to the said church. The vicar to pay yearly rent of 6 marks, and to be responsible for the repair of the chancel and of the rectory house.
