Mapledurham, Oxfordshire: Letter concerning settlement of business

Walter Blount, London, to Mr William Day at his house in Mapledurham. "I understood by Mr Fletcher that he had in order to settle and determine all businesses betweene you, and I offered you [in consideration of those tythes which belong unto you] a yearly paiment of fower score pounds, to be devided halfe in land and halfe in mony in equall portions, Provided you would acknoledge the custom of fortie shillings per annum in leiu of tythe Hay in Kind, and this to be included in thaforesaid Composition of £80 per annum, which Ile assure you he did of his owne accorde (without be direction) for tis much more then I should have condescended to. If you goe to Law to decide that dispute he confident of an ill successe. However, that court, if you refuse, I am resolved shall put a periode to all our controversies.
Wherefore, Mr Day, I must desire yr finall and positive answere, by [?Horne's] next returne, though to shew you my willingnesse to peace and good neibourhood I will stand to his propositions which I know to be disadvantagious enough to him who is your loving friend and servant. Wee both present our services to you and Mrs Day."
