Mapledurham, Oxfordshire: Draft letter concerning Mr Blount
Item
11 August 1655
2 folios
Draft of William Day, Mapledurham, to the uncle of Mr Blount's wife. Day had known Blount very little till he settled at Mapledurham. "He was sometime at church and he denied himselfe to be a Papist, and I have hearde and tooke notice of it, that in ye presence of those who professed themselves Papists he hath soe jested upon ye Pope yt I conceive none of that religion durst to have done it, yet I must confess hering yt soe many of his friends and kindred had professed that way, I have staggered in my judgement that to thinke of him. But for his civil parts he is a man of a loving nature, a kind husbande to his wife, a respective sonne to his mother in law, a wary husband in his estate, a kinde man to his neighbours hating rather than affectinge the prodigal waies of yonge gentleman. I hope yt I shall be soe happie as to send you worde one day yt he is a good Protestate alsoe."
