Indenture of lease, by the Provost and College to John Slannynge, of London, gentleman, of a captial messuage in the holding of Maistres Nutbrowne, widow, called Coppid Haule in the Crane of the Vyntree in London, and the houses and tenements adjoining in the holding of John Arenold, carpenter, and a tenement lately new builded in the holding of William Tyrrye, cowper, and a garden parted into two lying between Coppid Hall on the south and the tenement of the College held by Tyrrye and other on the north, which garden is of old time called "the Vynger garden of the Crane", and a tenement there wherein John Shawe, hatmaker, now dwells and one other tenement adjoining the same to the south now standing void and one void plat of ground ont he north of the hatmaker's, now held by John Swayne, the cowper, containing 26 feet in length and 15 feet in breadth as appears by an old extent. From Michaelmas last for 34 years. Rent £8. If the premises or any part of them perish by fire the lessee shall not be obliged to rebuild, but if the lessors rebuild the lessee may not enjoy that which is so rebuilt without a new agreement. The lessee to provide "an honest chamber" for the lessors and their servants in the Coppid Halle whenever they shall come in the College business.
