Content description
Memorandum of Agreement, witnessing that John Baverstock Knight, of Nether Cerne, co. Dorset, land surveyor, on behalf of the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway Company, agrees to pay £550 for the purchase of 2 acres 1 perch in Norton Bavant in the occupation of John Newberry Coles. William Trumper, of Dorney, land surveyor, on behalf of the Provost and Fellows of Eton College, Windsor, agrees to accept the said sum. The Land Tax, if not redeemed, shall be apportioned and the proper amount applicable thereto shall be redeemed forthwith by the vendors at their own expense. The Rent charge in lieu of tythes shall also be apportioned and the lands hereby agreed to be sold shall be exonerated therefrom and shall be borne by the vendors and be chargeable on the remainder of the estate. Of the £550 the sum of £365 is understood to be for the land and £185 for the severance and other damage. A schedule describes the land, as above.
