Content description
Letters Patent given copy under the seal of the Deanery of Arundell, from brother Gilbert minister of the church of Annadown and suffragan of the bishop of Chichester. Since on 6 March 1309 he has asked by the lady Mary de Vyenne and others to dedicate and consecrate the church of Codelawe and the cemetry of the same, he visited the church on the said day when William, vicar of the church of Clympyng, and John Alixundr', proctor of the Abbess and convent of the Blessed Mary of Almeneche, rectors of the church of Clympyng appeared and alleged that the said dedication and consecration were prejudical to them and the church of Clympyng. At length the lady Mary in the name of John, rector of the church of Codelawe, and the said William, vicar, and John, proctor, shewed certain instruments in the form of a convention made between them, and the said William and John gave their assent to the dedication and consercration, with the protestation, however, that there should be no prejudice to the church of Clympyng but that they should receive all greater and lesser tythes as accustomed according to the form of the convention; and they for their part undertook to receive none of the greater and lesser tythes on other parochial rights touching the church of Codelawe nor permit them to tbe received in their name to the prejudice of the said church.
