Oakley and Clapham, Bedfordshire: Indenture of conveyance

Indenture of conveyance, by the College, for £16,275 to Francis Charles Hastings, Duke of Bedford, of the rectory or parsonage of Oakley (but not the advowson of the vicarage) and the tithes of Bayhouse Wood in Clapham and all other tithes and rent charges in lieu of tithes appertaining to the rectory, or allotments awarded and the redeemed land tax of £18, and the fee farm rent of £1 3s 8d payable in respect of the rectory, and the waters and bed soil and banks of the river Ouse and all fishings and other appurtenances, and those parcels of arable and pasture land with the house and buildings thereon described in a schedule and shown on a plan, containing in the whole 230 acres 7 perches, to hold in the use of himself and his heirs and assigns for ever, subject to the obligation of maintaining the chancel of the parish church of Oakley. His widow shall not be entitled to dower out of the premises.
The schedule enumerates that parcels of land, with reference to the numbers in the tithe apportionment. The following place names occur: Home piece and meadow, Hungry Hill Close, Colsey meadow, Folly Close, Knaves Bush Ground, Brook Groung, Road Hill Ground, Long Hill Ground, Crow Hill Groung. A coloured plan on part of the second sheet of parchment shows the fields, the church, house and buildings, the river Ousse, the line of the Midland Railway from Nottingham to Bedford, the road from Bletsoe to Bedford and other roads, the parish gravel pit, and the names of adjacent proprietors; 6 chains to an inch, compass indicator. 1ft 4.4 ins. x 1ft 7.4. ins.
