Title

College Accounts: Bursars' remains

Level

Sub-series

Date

1578 - 1619

Content description

These are accounts drawn up at Michaelmas each year of the oxen, sheep, beer, wheat etc purchased in the course of the year and still remaining at its end. They may also include money in lieu if it is in arrears. For several years two or even three copies survive; presumably outgoing and incoming bursars would each have had one. Each year's remains are on a single sheet, indented (although the duplicates do not appear to fit together). Some of the sheets are signed by the auditor.

Arrangement

Patrick Strong labelled these [61] VR/K/6-VR/L/2 apparently intending to list them as a continuation of his "various account rolls" section in ECR 61. However, they do not appear in that catalogue and were not shelved with its contents. Furthermore VR/K/1-5 are not part of the same series. It therefore seemed better to treat these remains as a separate series, and list them with new numbers.
