Letter from Provost Hornby to Ernest Bell

James John Hornby (1826-1909) was at Eton 1839-1945 in the house of R. Okes. He was in the Newcastle Select 1844-1845, and in the Eton XI 1845. In 1868 he was appointed Head Master of Eton College, and in 1884 he was made Provost of Eton, holding the post until his death in 1909.
