Papers of John Charles Keate, 1822 - 1894
Sub-series
Only son of the Head Master John Keate and his wife Fanny, John went to Eton and then to Balliol College, Oxford. In 1848 he succeeded his father as rector of Hartley Wespall, Hampshire. He married Clara Hudleston, daughter of William and Annette Clara Hudleston of Somerset, in 1854. He had no children; a letter to his nephew Richard Durnford (son of the Bishop of Chichester) suggests his wife died in, or shortly after, childbirth in 1878.
1869 - 1889
