Margaretta Brown: Letter from Dr Brown
Item
16 March 1813
Letters received from Mrs Cunningham from Berlin, via a third party full of condolence, in a very affecting manner for the loss of his wife and of William. It seems clear from reports that Berlin will be evacuated by the French and occupied by the Russians. George Rose has repaid the debt and also suggests Dr Brown goes to Berlin to rescue his books. He is not inclined to follow this advice. George Rose's wife and daughter have had a dangerous attack of Scarlet Fever. Sorry to hear that Margaretta's household is so like a hospital. He has had bedsteads made to slip under the others so he can stuff in as many of the children as Dr Keate and Fanny choose to bring with them. John is busy brewing and gardening, 'a most singular circumstance has happened to a female cousin of John's..about a fortnight ago she was happily delivered of four boys who though small were very healthy, they were christened and named after the four Evangelists. John tells me that the Queen had been in person to see her and given her £100'
