Margaretta Brown: Letter from Dr Brown
Item
6 March 1813
From Margaretta Farm. He has heard that dispatches have arrived at Government in which it was said the Emperor Alexander had sent an Officer of Rank to Vienna with all the colours taken from the Austrian Army which he returned as not considering himself at war with Austria. The Officer was greeted by joy in Vienna and drawn by the populace to the Imperial Palace. Pleased with the conduct of Alexander, it will drive the 'infamous Corsican quite mad', what a miserable performance his expose of the state of France was, never Tyrant has been more sunk than he is. Asks Margaretta if he is happy that he sells their Carriage. Disappointing there is so little news of Berlin from Pauline Neale, though it is easy to conjecture what the sentiments of the people are towards the French. Robert Fragel (?) is to come to England in the spring with the second Prince of Orange. Poor Baron Herdt (?) has been removed from the Chateau de Vincennes, where he had thought he had been put to death and has been moved to the Prison in Paris where he is obliged to live at his own expense. Sends her a Bank Bill for £10 to help her. Addressed to Miss Brown, at the Revd. Dr Keate's, Eton College, near Windsor.
