Margaretta Brown: Letter from Dr Brown
Item
20 February 1813
Pleased that Robert Keate is to stand as a Candidate to fill the place of his Uncle at St George's Hospital and is happy to write to Lord Elgin to gain his support and influence. He has long had a contemptible opinion of Lord Elgin but this would changed if he helped Robert Keate. Reports on the distress of the Grenvilles on the death of the Marquis of Buck.m and by the melancholy state of Lord Carrysford, and that they were to go to Elton to comfort his sister. Poor Mrs Hoseason suffers from the wind in the chimneys during storms. Mrs Whitehouse asks him to visit to see her son and make plans to go travelling together 'a very likely story'. He would go and stay but the stage coach from Lynn only goes to Peterborough and a chaise for the 25 miles would be too expensive. River banks have suffered but survived. Give Fanny love but she has not written since she left Margaretta Farm in August (it is now February) Asks that she looks over the wardrobe of her late mother to see if there are some silks of not too grave a colour when she might give to Mrs Morgan. It would be fulfilling the intentions of her dear mother for he will 'ever entertain a kind of sacred respect'. Sorry Dr Keate is so busy that he can scarcely enjoy the the cheerful society he has in his house or hear the enchanting voice of Miss Anna Brown.
Addressed to Miss Brown, at the revd. Dr Keate's, Eton College, near Windsor.
