Margaretta Brown: Letter from Dr Brown
Item
25 June 1813
From Margaretta Farm. Writes of her plans to come to Cromer for an extended stay and the popularity of the place meaning lodgings must be booked. There are two pairs of post horses there which can be used to go out on an airing. Plans that little Fanny will come in advance of the rest of the Keate family and that the air would be good for her. Dined with the Prince of Orange and Robert Fragel (?) at the Graffien (?) and discussed the melancholy events in Berlin. The next day they toured the farm all day. He found the Prince very much changed for the worst in appearance, grown old, with an air of austerity and care as a consequence of the misfortunes and vexations which he has had, but improved in his manners and conversation. The Prince being Dutch thinks Marshland a fine county but didnt like the expensive manner the Graffien farm is run particular the windpowered threshing machine. They are due to visit Lord Malmesbury at Park Place so it is possible they will also visit Eton. Overwritten. Addressed to Miss Brown, at the revd. Dr Keate's Eton College, near Windsor
