Content description
Copy of a letter sent from Provost Hodgson to Lord Morpeth regarding Montem. Provost Hodgson argues for the abolition of Montem: 'As I have witnessed several Montems and have heard the most authentic reports of the evils that still exist (notwithstanding their instigation in degree, by the general improvement in the times among the well-educated) I cannot but feel it a sacred duty, in the station which I try to fill, however unworthily, to the best of my ability, to exert my utmost endeavours to remove such a blot from the fair fame of Eton.'
