Letter to the Queen from Eton boys
Item
c.1847
A plea to the Queen to continue Montem tradition. Letter argues that the custom is coeval with the foundation of the College and suggestive of the recollections of the past; the hope of becoming Captain at Montem is a stimulus and encouragement to boys entering the College and that attempts should be made to overcome the various abuses that have prevailed in the celebration of Montem in the past rather than sacrificing the custom itself.
