Anne Thackeray Ritchie collection: scrapbook complied by Hester Ritchie
Item
1907-1911
1 volume
Containing letters, drawings, photographs and other items of sentimental value, collected during a two and a half year period, predominantly concerning the birth of James Ritchie and Belinda Ritchie (later Norman-Butler)
The scrapbook starts with a telegram announcing the birth of James Ritchie on 5 November 1907 and contains autograph letters sent to Anne Thackeray Ritchie and to Hester Ritchie concerning the birth and christening of James, alongside early photographs. The scrapbook goes on to contain telegrams announcing the birth first of Belinda Ritchie (later Belinda Norman-Butler) and then Catherine Ritchie, with similar letters and photographs.
It also contains pencil sketches, presumably by Hester Ritchie, of James and Belinda and early letters James and Belinda wrote to Hester.
Notable items includes:
An autograph letter from A.C. Swinburne to Anne Thackeray Ritchie, thanking her for sending him some poems by Mary Coleridge and congratulating Richie on becoming a grandmother
An autograph letter from A.D. Coleridge to Anne Thackeray Ritchie, congratulating her on the birth of her grandson James Ritchie
The signatures of Charles Booth and J.M. Barrie
