The majority of the box contains autograph letters which were written while Thesiger was stationed in Abyssinia and sent to his mother and his brother Percy between 1913 and 1915. They describe his daily activities, the people he met and his experiences whilst he was there. They also describe the political situation at the time.
Also included are letters from Kathleen Thesiger to her mother-in-law written during the same period.
