Item
1933
1 notebook
Lined notebook marked as ‘Abyssinia 1933’, where Thesiger has added handwritten day by day entries between 24 August 1933 and 31 January 1934. The entries cover his journey to Addis Ababa, along the Awash River and finally through Danakil country.
The lengths of the entries vary from one or two lines to full page descriptions. A typical entry includes a brief description of where he went that day, the people he met, and his observations on his surroundings. Some of the pages have been marked with slips of papers noting prominent entries, such as when his journey to Danakil began. Some additional notes on the left-hand page were added later.
Enclosed in the volume are four loose leaves containing prints of Locust and a photocopied list of the expenses incurred on the trek.
