Bound notebook where Thesiger has added handwritten day by day entries between 12 and 27 May 1934. The entries cover the final part of his journey through Danakil country.
The lengths of the entries vary from half a page to three page descriptions. A typical entry includes a brief description of where he went that day, the people he met, and his observations on his surroundings.
There are only 23 pages contains diary entries in this volume. After the last entry, Thesiger has noted the expenses incurred on the trek, as well as descriptions of various Danakil customs. These include their attitudes to marriage, adultery and punishments as well as local traditions and practices.
A number of pages also include topographical sketches and drawings of monuments and graves he discovered during his journey.
